"Taking Care of Your Teak Bench Is Easy."

As the owner of a teak bench you, be sure to take care of it so that it will last for many years. Teak wood is know worldwide for its beauty, stability and durability under tough climatic conditions. However, if it is not taken care of it will over time begin to crack and be damaged beyond repair.

Whether you have interior or exterior benches made of teak, they are finished in several ways including varnished, natural, oiled and sealed. An interior bench will have less abuse than an outdoor teak bench does, so the interior teak bench will take less maintenance. However, teak benches overall will be relatively maintenance free no matter where they are used.

Depending on the finish on your exterior bench it needs to be oiled every six months to a year with teak oil. If your teak bench is sealed or varnished, use a furniture polish on it to shine it up and then put a protective coating over the finish. According to the elements, this needs to be done as often as once a week to once a month. For interior teak, nothing needs to be done except the occasional swipe with a feather duster.  You can use furniture polish or oil on it if desired.

When you oil your bench, be sure the wood is completely dry. If the bench is wet, moisture could get trapped and cause mold. A wet teak bench has could take up to forty eight hours to dry out. Always use true teak oil, not a finish. Teak oil can be found at any store that has boating and marine supplies. It is used extensively on watercraft. Oil your bench with a clean cloth or brush, always working from the top down. Do not leave excess oil to drip. Once the oil has been applied and left to sit it will get tacky in a few minutes. Once it does this, wipe it down with a clean cotton cloth to remove any excess oil. Step back and admire the shine on your gorgeous  bench.
