High Cholesterol is a common phenomena in today's age. High cholesterol has been identified as the main culprit in increasing the risk of heart diseases.

Cholesterol is a substance produced by the human liver and aids in the build up of acids that help with the digestion of the fat that we consume. Cholesterol is also supposed to build and repair cells and is also part of the process to produce estrogens and the testosterone hormone.

As with all things in life, too much of a good thing can become a problem, as is with cholesterol. Symptoms of high cholesterol are not always visible. A blood test is needed to identify high Cholesterol appropriately. However, if diagnosed with certain medical conditions it could be a sign of high Cholesterol. Those medical conditions include (but are not limited to) coronary disease, vascular disease or even a stroke.

When your blood test shows that your cholesterol levels are too high, your doctor will  recommend immediate action. Depending on the severity of the problem this can be a special diet combined with physical exercise or probably the use of medication. Overall the patient should start using a low Cholesterol diet and plan doing this for the long term

While the cholesterol-lowering properties of soy proteins are well-documented, and more research is being conducted on pea protein, lupin has been hiding its light under a bushel, say the authors of ‘ Cholesterol-lowering effect of whole lupin ( Lupinus albus ) seed and its protein isolate’.

New federal guidelines say every child should be screened for high cholesterol once between the ages of 9 and 11 and again between 17 and 21. The testing aims to find kids with extremely high cholesterol caused by a genetic condition. But the testing will find others whose cholesterol may not need treatment.

(Medical Xpress) -- Maintaining healthy cholesterol levels can keep heart disease, heart attack and stroke away. And a commonly used vitamin could help by increasing production of “good” cholesterol in the body, researchers at the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville have found. The findings were published recently in the journal Metabolism, Clinical and Experimental.


Food which are low in saturated fats are recommended. Certain food groups that are also recommended in your new diet, should include skinless poultry, lean meat, fish, fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grain foods and low fat dairy products.

Please note that meals should be prepared by steaming, grilling, boiling or baking. Limit eating fried foods or even try to avoid them. Have your cholesterol checked regularly, even though you think you may not be in danger of having high cholesterol.
